Box Kids is an Out of School Club, conveniently located in the Jubilee Centre in the Market Place, Box. We have been providing families with childcare since 2001, Becky took over in 2007 where it has gone from strength to strength.
We care for children aged 3-11years, we are registered with Ofsted to care for children aged 3-8 years, providing 'wrap around' childcare of the highest standard. Whether you are returning to work/ college or just need a extra hours at the end of the day, we're here to help.
There's plenty of time for playing with all our toys, games and socialising with friends. We've a quiet area if the children wish to read books, have a rest or do homework, we try to play outdoors at least once a week during the warmer months and weather permitting during the wetter/colder months. The children help us with our themes and activities by giving us ideas and suggestions.
To help with valuable family time, for an extra £1.90 per day, we can give your child an evening meal, freeing up time before bedtime. The meals are planned with help from the children to ensure the children will like the meals. We alter the menu for dietary and cultural requirements and encourage the children to try new foods, especially fruit, salad & vegetables. Look at our latest menu >>>
We encourage the children to care/look after themselves and others, including things around them like toys and the environment etc.
Droping off and Collecting
In January 2021, we started to use an App called Q-Bell instead of a regular doorbell, it was to help us and parents to maintain social distancing and to make handovers more efficient as it tells you who is at the door. Only those who have been invited by Becky can download and access our doorbell, making it secure and keeps the children safe. Parents use the app to 'ring' the bell, it shows us who is outside to either drop off or collect and we can message the parent while they are waiting. We ask that parents stay away from the wall until they are told to approach, this helps to keep the area free.
Ofsted and EYFS
On Thursday 6th April 2023 we had an Ofsted inspection, we will put a link to our report when Ofsted have released the official report.
At our last inspection (August 2017) it was recognised that we provide high quality childcare and was extremely complimentary. Grading the Club as “Good” overall, adding we have a lot of respect for each other, between all the children and staff, and that the setting is a very happy, caring, and creative place for children to be. Staff were praised for providing “an interesting and stimulating range of planned activities to keep the children occupied and help them to progress in all areas of their development.” We are extremely proud of this and of everything we do. Click here to read our report.
September 2008 saw Box Kids implement the new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for all children aged 3-5years in our care which links up with nurseries, pre-schools and schools. The framework was refined in September 2012 and again September 2014.
The framework was updated in April 2017, we no longer need to implement EYFS’ Teaching, Learning and Assessment but we will continue to monitor the children's development and pass on any relevant details on to other settings. We carry out one observation a month and link it to the Characteristics of Effective Learning. Regular children aged 3-5 years will have a learning journey, we observe children as soon as they start to help us get to know the children and settle them in. You are welcome to have a look at your child’s learning journey.

We are extremely proud of the quality of our childcare and have a high staff:child ratio 1:8 or 1:10, we adjust the adults to match the needs and ages of the children, we sometimes we work on the lower ratio of staff to children.
All staff including volunteers have a DBS &/or CRB check and have a full induction to ensure they and the children are kept safe. All staff have relevant training and wear bright pink t-shirts, coats and gilets and bright blue jumpers displaying the settings logo and contact details. Staff all wear ID badges.
Becky Townsend - Managing Owner (DSL, SENCO, H&S Officer, Paediatric First Aider)
"I've been working with children in a variety of ways e.g. at a playgroup, childminding, babysitting, as a Teaching Assistant/ Senior Mid-day Supervisory Assistant and a Brownie and Rainbow Leader. As well as being at Box Kids, I am a teaching assistant at Box Primary School. I enjoy working with children as every day is different, you never know what the children going to do or say, it's great when you see children achieve something and gain confidence. I have always wanted to work with children, it is very rewarding and I can't think any other job I would like to do.
I worked at Box Kids when it first opened up in September 2001 and I took over ownership in May 2007.
In my free time, I like running, spending time with friends & family and reading" |
